Drew
Kirk was born with Ostieo Gennisis Imperfecta Type Two. This is more
commonly known as Brittle Bone Disease. What this means is that his
bones could break very easily especially when he was young. He could
fracture a rib just by sneezing. Running, playing and doing th things
that most children do every day are very dangerous to Drew.
Luckily though, Drew
is a fighter and gets stronger every day with the help of his loving
family, his physical therapist, Children’s Miracle Network and
many others. Drew and his physical therapist work to strengthen his
muscles without hurting his bones. Drew began with swimming exercises
to help him with this. In the water he is almost weightless and can
do so many things, even walk! Drew has improved so much over the last
few years and is now doing therapy at the pediatric gym in Hendrick
Center for Rehabilitation. Climbing mountains every day in his journey
to his ultimate dream to walk!
Drew is a very courageous
and hard working young man who has a great future ahead of him. His
mother says that more than anything the therapy is giving him his independence.
Drew’s independence does getting stronger everyday. Only Drew’s
bones are fragile, his spirit is incredibly strong!
