CICU
Parker 3/CICU is called the cardiology unit. We are an intermediate care or step down unit, referring to the fact that our patients require the next level of care after being moved from a critical care area. We care for patients that are 16 years of age or older, who have a need for cardiac monitoring.
The cardiology unit has two areas that include:
Sixteen Telemetry Beds – Our telemetry beds are used for patients who specifically need monitoring for cardiac problems such as post-interventional cardiology patients (post-angioplasty/stent, post heart catheterization, post AICD placement, post pacemaker placement, acute coronary syndrome, coronary artery disease and a variety of cardiac rhythm disturbances.)
Usually, our nurse to patient ratio on this unit is one nurse to every four to five patients.
Nine CICU Beds – Patients admitted to CICU have had interventions to their coronary arteries, such as angioplasty, stent, rotobladers and antiplatelet infusions. We may also receive patients who have had vascular interventions other than the coronaries. If beds are available, we also take patients having acute myocardial infarctions. Other patients with complex cardiac diagnosis may also be accepted into CICU. These beds have bedside monitors and invasive monitoring capability similar to ICU. Patients in this area require closer monitoring which requires a nurse to patient ratio of one nurse to every two to three patients.
Our nurses are required to attend a critical care orientation training course and preceptorship on the floor which may last up to 12 weeks. We have a highly skilled, caring team of registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, specialty techs and certified nurse assistants.
Our Parker 3 family will care for your heart with our heart.
