Hendrick surgeons perform 1,000th robotic-assisted surgery

Hendrick Medical Center surgeons achieved a milestone when the 1,000th robotic-assisted surgery was performed on Sept. 27, less than three years after introducing the program.

The daVinci Xi surgical system provides surgeons an alternative to traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy. Using precision instruments and tiny cameras, specially trained surgeons are able to perform complex and intricate procedures through small incisions, resulting in better patient healing with less risk of bleeding and shorter hospital stays.

When the program was first introduced at Hendrick Medical Center in 2015, four surgeons were performing robotic-assisted surgeries. Today, the number of robotic-surgery credentialed surgeons at Hendrick has grown to 10, with the types of procedures numbering almost 20.

Hendrick Medical Center’s credentialed robotic surgeons include three general surgeons, three urologists, two gynecologists, one colorectal surgeon and one cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon.
