The Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health and Hendrick Women’s Services have partnered again to present “Day of the Woman” Lunch & Learn, Sept. 25. Women in the community are encouraged to attend and learn about brain health from featured speaker, Leanne Young, PhD. Dr. Young will present, Fuel for the Brain and What Not to Do.

“We know how to take care of other parts of our body – we use sunscreen for our skin health, we eat healthy and exercise for our heart health,” said Elyse Lewis, coordinator for Women’s Health Community Initiatives at Hendrick Health. “Unfortunately, we seldom think about how to keep our brains healthy. Dr. Young will offer practical advice on what to do, and what not to do, to fuel our brains.”

A nationally recognized expert in blast injury research, Young began her career with the Department of Defense (DOD) in the Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office to collect the first histological evidence of primary blast-induced injuries. After 20 years at the DOD, she earned a doctorate in cognitive neuroscience and joined the Center for Brain Health as executive director of the Brain Performance Institute. Young recently stepped down from this role and returned to research for the DOD with the goals of increasing brain health and performance among active duty military personnel.

“Day of the Woman” will be held at Hunter Welcome Center on the ACU campus at 11:45 a.m. Lunch will be provided, but RSVPs are required to 325-696-0646 or elyse.lewis@ttuhsc.edu.
