Neurosurgery

At Hendrick Neuroscience Center, our highly trained neurosurgeons provide comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for disorders of the brain, spine, and peripheral nervous system. Our neurosurgical and interventional specialists deliver therapeutic treatments using conventional open surgery, as well as minimally invasive procedures.

  • Endovascular Treatment of Arteriovenous Malformations (AVM) and Aneurysms
  • Trigeminal Neuralgia Treatments
  • (Including Microsurgical Techniques, for Trauma, Tumor, Aneurysm, AVM, Infection)
  • Pain Pump Placement and Spinal Cord Stimulation

Aneurysm Treatment

  • Surgical clipping – Using microsurgical techniques, a clip is placed on the aneurysm that prevents it from bleeding or growing.
  • Endovascular coiling – A minimally invasive way of treating the aneurysm from inside the vessel by sealing off the aneurysm, which prevents it from bleeding or growing.

Endovascular Treatment

  • Stroke therapies: Thrombolytic Therapy and Thrombectomy use clot-busting medication to dissolve a clot or physically remove a clot in a blood vessel to restore normal blood flow to the brain.
  • Endovascular Coiling for Aneurysms
  • Carotid artery angioplasty/stenting: A narrowed carotid artery is opened with a small balloon and/or a tiny metal scaffold called a stent. The carotid arteries supply blood to the brain.
  • Vascular malformation therapy: These special treatments eliminate or reduce blood flow to various types of vascular malformations such as Arteriovenous Malformations (AVM) or an arteriovenous fistula (an abnormal connection between an artery and vein.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery

This noninvasive treatment allows for a maximum dose of radiation to be delivered to the tumor with minimal radiation exposure to the normal surrounding tissues for safely treating conditions including:

  • Benign tumor
  • Meningiomas (found in tissue surrounding the brain and spinal cord)
  • Schwannomas (tumor of the hearing or acoustic nerve)
  • Malignant Tumors (Primary or Metastases)
  • AVM
  • Trigeminal Neuralgia (chronic pain condition that affects the face)
