Journey Guides offers individual support from women who have similar diagnoses. In October of 2002, Vera West Women's Center sponsored a luncheon honoring breast cancer survivors. As a result, a new focus group of survivors began meeting with other health professionals. Our goal was to develop a seamless process for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. We wanted to make it better for every single woman who might hear those words, "I'm sorry; it is cancer."

These survivors shared their experiences with each other and realized that having a fellow breas cancer "victor," a guide or mentor, would be priceless. Thus, Journey Guides was formed. These survivors have made their stories and themselves available to help others with their fears, as questions or just listen.
