Face Masks & Coverings
Mask Up When You Head Out
Hendrick has been vigilant in its safety precautions to limit the spread
of COVID-19. Hendrick staff will continue wearing masks at all care sites
to keep patients, visitors and employees safe. We strongly encourage the
community to wear masks in public and in the workplace.
While information about COVID-19 continues to be clinically reviewed and
verified, there are several facts clinicians agree on:
- Masking at work and in public decreases the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission.
Studies suggest that nearly half of people infected with the virus became
infected by someone who hadn’t shown symptoms yet.
- The virus can spread when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks.
Masks, when worn correctly, reduce transmission of infectious droplets
from the individual wearing the face covering.
- Masks are a simple and effective way to limit the spread of COVID-19.
- We want to thank our city leaders for joining us in encouraging mask wearing.

How to Wear a Mask
Your mask or face covering should:
- Reach above the nose, below the chin, and completely cover the mouth and nostrils
- Fit snugly against the sides of the face
- Be made of multiple layers of fabric that you can still breathe through
- Be able to be laundered and machine dried without damaging the material or shape
Do not buy surgical masks to use as a face covering. Those are intended
for healthcare workers and first responders. Many items you may already
have in your home can be used to create face coverings.
Try creating a cloth face covering using bandanas, ski masks, washable
napkins, or dish towels. For more information about face coverings, visit
the CDC website.
