5 Key Points for COI

Mandatory Disclosure

Healthcare employees, professionals, researchers, and others involved in patient care or research must disclose relevant financial and non-financial interests.

Purpose

The purpose of these disclosures is to identify and manage potential conflicts of interest, ensuring that decisions are made in the best interest of patients without bias or conflicts and that research is conducted with integrity.

Scope

Disclosures should cover a wide range of interests, including financial investments, consulting fees, gifts, and personal family relationships with relationships with vendors or competitors.

Management

Once a conflict of interest is identified, a management plan should be developed to mitigate potential bias, which may include abstaining from certain decisions, seeking alternative opinions, or disclosing the conflict to relevant parties.

Transparency and Accountability

COI Disclosure forms promote transparency and accountability by making it clear that potential conflicts of interest are known and being managed, fostering trust and ethical conduct within the healthcare system.
