Dr. William H. Butler, Sr. served was the Big Country’s first black physician. From 1914 through 1945, Dr. Butler cared for his neighbors and this community – many of whom would not have had access to healthcare without his invaluable expertise and service.

In an effort to honor Dr. Butler’s legacy and to build for our future, Hendrick Health has established the “Dr. William H. Butler, Sr. Scholarship for the Advancement of Racial and Ethnic Diversity in Healthcare.” This scholarship is designed to help Hendrick employees of a diverse background who are seeking some form of continued education – whether that is a certification, credentialing or even a new degree. Once fully funded, the Butler Scholarship is intended to be awarded twice a year to deserving Hendrick Health employees. Scholarship applications for Fall 2022 will open this summer. Check back for more information.

If you are interested in supporting the financial growth of this scholarship, you can contact Brad Benham at the Hendrick Health Foundation at 325-670-2628 or you can make a secure, online transaction by completing the form below. All gifts are tax deductible.
