Hendrick Pulmonary Rehab offers free screening for COPD Month

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a leading cause of death in the nation, with more than 65 million Americans affected and millions more unaware they have it. COPD is an umbrella term used to describe progressive lung diseases, including emphysema, chronic bronchitis and refractory (non-reversible) asthma. To raise awareness of COPD, Hendrick Pulmonary Rehabilitation is offering free COPD screenings.

“Patients often visit their doctors with complaints of shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing up phlegm,” said Bonnie Coxe, manager for Hendrick Pulmonary Rehabilitation. “Many accept these symptoms as part of the normal aging process and that may not be the case. While there is currently no cure, medications and pulmonary rehabilitation can help patients manage the disease by relieving symptoms, preventing and treating complications and increasing overall quality of life.”

For more information about COPD or to schedule a free screening, contact Bonnie Coxe or Susan McQuade at 325-670-2280.
