School sports physicals available through Hendrick Clinic providers

Sports activities are a healthy endeavor for children, and a preparticipation physical evaluation – also called a sports physical – helps determine the medical fitness of youngsters to train and compete.

Texas requires a sports physical for students to participate in sports for grades seven through 12 and in marching band in high school.

The physical includes checking the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems and a medical history. Through the exam, the physician or other healthcare provider can identify any possible medical and bone/joint problems.

Summer is an ideal time to arrange for a sports physical with the child’s pediatrician or other primary care provider. The Prompt Clinic at 1633 Cottonwood Street in Abilene will be offering cash only, walk-in sports physicals on Saturday, July 29 from 9 – 11 a.m. for a discounted rate.
