School sports physicals available through Hendrick Clinic providers

Sports activities are a healthy endeavor for children, and a preparticipation physical evaluation – also called a sports physical – helps determine the medical fitness of youngsters to train and compete.

Texas requires a sports physical for students to participate in sports for grades seven through 12 and in marching band in high school.

The physical includes checking the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems and a medical history. Through the exam, the physician or other healthcare provider can identify any possible medical and bone/joint problems.

Summer is an ideal time to arrange for a sports physical with the child’s pediatrician or other primary care provider. The Prompt Clinic at 1633 Cottonwood Street in Abilene will be offering cash only, walk-in sports physicals on Saturday, July 29 from 9 – 11 a.m. for a discounted rate.

Hendrick Clinic also offers sports physicals at the following locations:

  • The Prompt Clinics at Hendrick Bone and Joint in Abilene: Open Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and Friday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. at two locations: 5302 Buffalo Gap Road, Suite 101 and 1633 Cottonwood Street. Call 325-672-4372 to make an appointment.
  • Hendrick Urgent Care locations: Walk in, or schedule online at hendrickurgentcare.com. Located at 820 East Ambler Avenue and 4424 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene and 400 East Commerce Street in Brownwood. All three locations are open seven days a week.
