Hendrick Health emphasizes the importance of men prioritizing their health

National Men’s Health Month serves as an annual reminder for men to prioritize their physical well-being. Through regular wellness checkups, adopting healthy habits and seeking timely medical advice, men can significantly reduce their risk of developing chronic diseases. This proactive approach not only enhances individual health, but it also benefits men’s families and their communities.

“In my experience, I have seen men who are wonderful husbands and fathers but often neglect their own health,” said Dr. Adlene Jebakumar, an internal medicine physician at Hendrick Clinic. “I would encourage men to step up and take care of their own health by seeking medical advice at the right time and following up regularly with their physician.”

By taking care of their own health, men are better able to continue providing for their loved ones, she said.

“Annual wellness visits are very important for early diagnosis of chronic diseases and cancer screenings,” said Dr. Jebakumar. “Men, make it your priority to protect your health.”

Males are statistically at higher risk for several serious health conditions, including heart disease, hypertension, colorectal cancer and prostate cancer. Regular checkups allow healthcare providers to identify risk factors and signs of disease early, leading to more effective and less invasive treatments. By prioritizing preventative care, the likelihood of severe health issues can be reduced and the overall quality of life can be improved.

In addition to medical screenings, Men’s Health Month underscores the importance of a healthy lifestyle in preventative care. Nutrition, physical activity and good mental health are essential components of a healthy life.
