For individuals who have suffered the loss of a loved one, the holidays can seem like a daunting occasion.
“During the holiday season – the season of family, friends and community – we are acutely aware of those who are no longer physically present in our lives,” said Adrianna Golden-Smith, bereavement coordinator at Hendrick Hospice Care. “Although an unwanted gift, grief offers us several graces during the holidays: we have opportunities to honor their legacy, cherish our memories and celebrate the ways that their lives have forever changed our own.”
To help those struggling with grief learn how to find hope and healing during the holiday season, Hendrick Hospice Care offers a seminar for individuals and a children’s holiday grief tool kit for families.
- “Grief in the Holidays,” Saturday, Nov. 15, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Seminar for individuals ages 18 and older who have experienced the death of a loved one. A light lunch will be served. There is no cost to attend but reservations are required and space is limited. Please call the RSVP line at 325-670-6999 by Friday, Nov. 7, to secure a spot. The program will be at Hendrick Hospice Care Center, 1651 Pine St. Enter through the Davis Bereavement Center entrance on the North 16th Street side of the building.
- Children’s Holiday Grief Tool Kit. For families with children and teens, the free tool kit includes information about children’s grief, family activities and some supplies. Please email bereavement@hendrickhealth.org by Friday, Nov. 7 to reserve a tool kit. One per family.
