Hendrick Health stroke support group expands to Brownwood, September 18

Hendrick Health’s Surviving and Thriving After Stroke, a support group for stroke survivors, family members and caregivers, has expanded to Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood.

The support group, which has been offered at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene since 2014, provides education and social opportunities to inspire resilience through connection with others affected by stroke.

The first meeting in Brownwood is scheduled for Thursday, September 18, from 5 – 6 p.m. in Hendrick Medical Plaza’s Education Classroom at 2371 Crockett Drive, Suite 100.

“Community-based stroke support groups serve as critical hubs for healing, hope and empowerment for survivors, families and caregivers,” said Kristin Tamminga, quality coordinator at Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood and support group coordinator. “Support group participation can be an important step in recovery for all affected by stroke.”

Attendees will hear from speakers on topics related to stroke prevention and recovery, including brain health, exercise, speech and swallowing and more.

The groups in Brownwood and Abilene meet every third Thursday of the month from January through October of every year.
