The Hendrick Health stroke program comprises multidisciplinary teams of experts, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, emergency medicine physicians, internists, cardiologists, rehabilitative specialists and a nursing staff specializing in stroke. Our experts are ready to respond anytime, day or night.

The most important factor is to seek immediate medical care. Once stroke occurs, the goal is to lessen the potentially debilitating effects, prevent further damage to the brain and reduce the potential medical and physical complications. For every minute that passes, millions of brain cells die.

The team provides treatment during the critical acute state of stroke – the first few hours after the onset of symptoms. Personalized treatment can include evidence-based care, medications and rehabilitative therapy to improve outcomes.

Stroke Certification and DSHS Designation

Hendrick Medical Center (HMC) achieved the DNV Primary Plus Stroke Center (PSC+) certification and Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Advanced (Level II) stroke designation. Achieving this certification and designation means HMC provides evidence-based care to both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients in the region. With 24/7 coverage for a minimally invasive procedure for an ischemic stroke, caused by a large clot, HMC serves its vast region and keeps patients close to home.

Hendrick Medical Center South (HMCS) achieved the DNV Primary Stroke Center (PSC) certification and DSHS Primary (Level III) stroke designation. Achieving this certification and designation means that HMCS provides timely evidence-based stroke care to its patients and works closely with HMC if an emergent advanced intervention is needed. This has created a stroke system of care in the region.

The DNV stroke certifications are based on standards set forth by Brain Attack Coalition and American Stroke Association. The certifications affirm that the hospitals address the full spectrum of stroke care – diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education. Both hospitals participate in the national GWTG Stroke Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke registry with clear metrics to evaluate outcomes and benchmark against stroke care at stroke hospitals across the United States.
